Something totally random: A video response to
Justin's [Rhine1988] Deadly Blessing DVD YouTube contest, in which I
have to list my 5 horror films that I feel are underrated and should be
talked about more. What are yours?
Ah, Society, that movie's been a thorn in my side for so long! Years ago, I saw a video of it in a store, but couldn't remember what it was called, and it was only recently that I found out, totally by chance, what this cool sounding film was called! I haven't gotten around to watching it yet, but I definitely will soon, considering I've been itching to for probably nearly a decade now!
I might do a video like this, although other than Messiah of Evil, for the life of me, I can't think of any underrated horror movies! haha! Even ones I can think of aren't underrated anymore, like Inferno or Halloween III.
Yeah, Society is a film you really have to dive into. It's so bizarre and twisted that it'll mess with your head for some time to come. Definitely check it out when you have the chance.
And yeah, I think with the internet now, it's hard to decipher what films are underrated or overexposed.
5- Dan O Bannon's The Resurrected (1991) 4- Jack Clayton's The Innoncents (1961) 3- Brad Anderson's Session 9 (2001) 2- Three Extremes (2004) 1- Alexander Bustillo's and Julien Maury's Inside (2007)
Frailty is always the first movie I think of when people talk about underrated horror. So atmospheric and beautiful, so good, and you're right - nobody ever talks about it! You're also not the only one who saw it in theaters. I remember this one well because I was in love with Matthew McConaughey at the time and this film was released on my birthday. I thought it was fate. So I made a friend go with me to see it and I absolutely loved it.
Just saw Bloody Birthday for the first time a month or so ago (yes, thank you Netflix streaming!) and I thought it was quite literally the best thing ever. Really didn't expect to enjoy that one so much but it is just hella fun, and the acting is actually very good.
And again, you're getting into my brain because right after Frailty, my next underrated flick would be Dead and Buried, which is just ten tons of awesome. I need to buy that one; haven't seen it since that first time.
Great picks!
